I love the start of a new year. It’s a chance to wipe the slate clean, to forget the mistakes of the prior year, and begin anew. Long ago, I gave up the notion of making a ton of new year’s resolutions. I make one and only one, announce it publicly, and then try to keep it. This year my resolution is to be healthy.
Go figure – right?
After my January 18. 2011 car accident where I broke my sternum and a few ribs, then the March 5th, 2011 accident where I stepped into a pothole and broke my fibula, which then almost went into a state of non-union because the docs didn’t treat the broken bone properly in Trinidad, and that took 9 – 9! – full months to heal, that resolution must seem totally obvious!
The experts say that the way to keep a resolution is to do the following:
Announce it publicly – tick that one off
Be specific – to follow below
Practice for 6 weeks in a row – so boring for everyone, but I will be doing a weekly update for the 6 weeks starting today.
Measure and revise every month
Here’s my specifics:
Take my vitamins everyday
Exercise for 25 minutes five times a week
Eat five portions of fruit and raw vegetables everyday
Limit my meat intake to once a week
Wine and/or champagne only on the weekends
Are you making any resolutions? Do you announce them publicly?
Happy 2012 everyone!
May the best of 2011 be the worst of 2012!
The above was my father's favorite toast. Not a day goes by without me missing you Dad. So wish you were still physically here.
Cheers,
