CENT Day 16

Phoenix, Arizona is not what I expected, but I should’ve known better. Yes, it is a desert town, and, yes, there are cacti and tumbleweeds everywhere, but there are more golf courses per capita here than any other state save Florida, and the city and metro are is landscaped meticulously.

The streets are immaculate, the berms are decorated with flowers wherever possible, and the citizens are extraordinarily proud of their city and the valley of the sun within which Phoenix lies. My editor, Georgia Woods, took me on a tour of the downtown, and the harmony of the buildings and skyline impressed me. Downtown Phoenix manages to be both quaint and big-city simultaneously. Here’ are a couple of pics of the downtown area and you’ll see what I mean:

Oh and the grocery stores! I am sooooo jealous. I'm begging Sprouts and Fresh and Easy to move to Florida. The choice, the produce, the pre-prepared dinners, the ABSENCE of additives and preservatives. Now when Georgia tells me she's going to the grocery, I will mutter and berate the powers that be about the lack of choice we have in Florida. Not that I have anything against the local chain, you understand. But they pre-package everything and you’re forced to buy a huge bag of green beans when you only need a handful. Empty nesters cannot eat 3 pounds of beans before they go bad.

Since yesterday was the Hot Rod’s birthday, Georgia went all out for dinner, With a name like Georgia, when she says she’s cooking a REAL southern barbeque meal -  you know you’re in for gastronomic heaven. My mouth’s watering just thinking about last night’s meal - ribs with sauce made from scratch, baked beans, and a wonderful potato salad. I ignored any puny attempt to diet and ate the proverbial pig with gusto!

Cheers and condolences to my expanding waistline,

JC
