CENT Day 14
Exploring to the left of our hotel (we’d gone right for the past few days) revealed the Venetian. Here’s a shot of the Gondola and the interior canals and shops.
We went to see Zumanity, billed as ‘the sensual side’ of Cirque du Soleil, last night. Since ours were last minute tickets and we had to be at the New York New York an hour before the show started, we whiled away the time there by having a bite and a drink.
The DH insisted on sitting at the bar to view the Canada/German hockey game. Three people joined us at the bar, two men and one woman, the former cheering for the Canucks. Now the DH loves to strike up a conversation anywhere, any place (a habit that got us into a sticky situation in Montana in a cowpoke joint), and within minutes discovered that both men were Canadian, one a visitor from Toronto, the other a recent Phoenix native grew up in the DH’s hometown. Talk about a coincidence, a couple of glasses of merlot later, he discovers the new Phoenician (is that right?) went to the same college we did, Guelph, but graduated one year later than we did!
It truly is a small world.
Zumanity proved an entertaining, funny cabaret. Not what we expected, but good nonetheless, although we left feeling a tad let-down.
On the way out I commented, “Well - that certainly wasn’t what it was billed.”
The woman in front of me turned around and said, “Yes. That’s exactly how I feel. I expected to be rushing him -here she points to her companion- back to the hotel for a really hot night. Instead, all I want is a drink and a steak.”
Her companion muttered, “And she spilled her drink on my crotch. This wasn’t what I expected either.”
The DH and I cracked up.
We walked to the Paris, sat on the patio of Mon Ami Gabi, ate steak and pommes frites, drank wine, and The Fountains of Bellagio exploded into a new performance every fifteen minutes enchanting us more and more as the night wore on.
Here’s a shot of the restaurant in the daylight.
And here’s links to two views of my second favorite Fountain performance.
Cheers,
JC
P.S. Today is a travel day so no update until Friday.
